Founded in 1895, the Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition-La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy, is the world’s oldest and most venerable venue for the international display of contemporary art in all its forms (including sculpture, painting, installation, film and video, performance, sound art).

The Venice Biennale receives over 350,000 visitors from all around the world. The Biennale attracts visitors with a strong appreciation of the arts as well as artists, collectors, art dealers, and individuals from the visual and media arts, architecture, design, and communications communities who are in the international art scene.

During its opening ‘Vernissage/Press Preview’ days it is seen by over 30,000 of the world’s most important museum directors, gallery curators, collectors and artists, as well as by nearly 6,000 journalists from the most influential international daily newspapers, magazines, television and the internet. The event is an obligatory occasion for major, international professional press, such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Guardian, Le Monde, and celebrated arts press including Artforum, Frieze, E-Flux, Art in America, Canadian Art, Flash Art and others, to present critical assessment of established and new artists.

The 53rd International Art Exhibition-La Biennale di Venezia will take place from June 7 to November 22, 2009.
